Reflecting on things to be grateful for, I feel so fortunate and lucky to have the Freedom to teach people AI and build my AI app, both on my own terms, with no outside investors, board, etc.
It’s been a wild wild ride. And I’m just getting started.

Now onto the good stuff :D
Here are my 3 key learnings, as I reflect upon the past 1 year building Blotato in public.
I launched officially on October 20 2024, so it’s been 13 months!
1. My entire strategy can be summarized as “AI + Social”
I create free high-quality educational content on social media, which is high-leverage because content I made 1 year ago continues to attract new viewers or I can remix it with a fresh spin. I made a full playbook detailing this step-by-step here.
I use AI everywhere I possibly can in my AI-native solo startup, including coding (Claude Code), marketing (Blotato), support (n8n), recruiting (n8n), finance (Puzzle), brainstorming (Deepseek), etc.
But I’m the one architecting and orchestrating everything.
I’m the one driving AI, directing it to assist me.
It’s NOT just “plug and play this AI agent” and hope it works autonomously… it takes MASSIVE time/effort/energy/tears to build AI systems that actually work, reliably, at scale.
However, what most people don’t give enough credit to: the maturity & incredible FREE organic reach of social media.
For literally $0, I reach at least 1.5M+ people per week!
Due to my personal brand and audience, it’s been 1000x easier building Blotato compared to building my previous startup.
I also feel that being a creator is unique in my space because most of my competitors don’t make content, even though we’re building content creation tools. Naturally, I have a deep understanding of what ACTUALLY WORKS because I live it daily.
I don’t have a team to blame when my content flops; only me.
I live at the bleeding edge of AI, vibe coding, vibe marketing, social media, agents, and automations. I’m always experimenting, always trying to understand where things are going, and how to do things better/faster/cheaper.
I feel the pain when your posts flop, when you’re stuck in 200-view jail, when you’re shadowbanned, when you feel overwhelmed unsure where to start, second-guessing yourself.
When users join me in office hours, it’s not just “how to” product questions. I also discuss specific content strategies, what’s working with the algos, and what’s working with AI + content.
By combining (1) free social media distribution with (2) AI that creates massive leverage for myself…
I’ve built a compounding customer acquisition flywheel which organically grows my highly-leveraged AI-native startup!
2. I don’t stress over competitors and clones
Let’s say 10 people clone my app.
Is the market big enough for ALL 10 clones to build a healthy profitable business?
The answer is almost always... YES.
My space is social media content creation, which has MILLIONS of potential paying customers.
If each clone app gets 1000 users @ $30/month, that is $30k/month for EACH CLONE app.
In other words, there’s plenty of market for everyone to BE HAPPY AND CHILL OUT.
Personally, I stay focused on building a great product and serving customers. Revenue is a lagging indicator of those 2 things.
I truly believe revenue works itself out, as long as you keep improving your product and keep trying to make customers happy.
Another key perspective - even if all 10 clones START with the same feature set, over time each clone will evolve its product based on audience needs. So 1 year later, the “clones” end up looking different from each other. This is NOT obvious when you look at a website, but it’s obvious when you use the product.
KEY TAKEAWAY:
Competitors/clones do NOT make or break your success, so don’t stress over it!
3. I’m only 1% into building my big vision
I see a much bigger opportunity now, than when I first started.
I estimate I’ve only made 1% progress towards building my big vision for Blotato.
Distribution and Cash are no longer my bottlenecks.
(which is the CRAZIEST sentence I’ve ever written!)
BUT…
To go BIG and make this play, I really really really need to reduce distractions and low-leverage activities. I need to focus on building/improving product, more than ever before.
I’m not blind to the fact MANY people tried blotato, and it didn’t work for them, it wasn’t clear how to use it, or they ran into bugs. I have a generous 30-day refund policy and always honor it.
But even 1 year post-launch, there are SOOOO many parts of my own product I don’t like, and I know I should improve them.
After traveling 3x for in-person speaking events the past few months, now it’s crystal clear to me:
My highest-leverage activity is improving product!
There’s no event, podcast, or conference that comes close in terms of creating more leverage.
That’s why I’ve sworn off in-person events in 2026, as I want to laser-focus on building product, while maintaining my 1 day/week educational content creation.
